Road Less Traveled Season 3: FINALE
2015 has been a phenomenal year for us thus far! We started off by filming in Antarctica – team Road Less Traveled embarked on the Maersk Peary for a once a year mission to refuel McMurdo base station in Antarctica. The film crew flew into Australia and boarded the ice break class vessel there. A 2 weeks in and 2 weeks out mission returned them to New Zealand, and then they flew back to LA. This was our Season 3 finale and what a way to wrap up the stellar season!
Road Less Traveled: Food Unknown
We launched a new series and direction for the RLT brand, called Food Unknown. It’s quite simple really, we scout out locations around the world that are not associated with great food, and we find gems within them. We embarked on a fantastic adventure; a road trip through Luzon in Philippines. This was our pilot episode and we returned state side after the shoot.
Maximum Foodie is our brand new food/travel series with Liesel Hlista. It’s a fun and entertaining series that sheds light on questions no one else in the culinary world is asking.
We filmed our pilot in Philippines in 2014 and then recently, we filmed in Bangkok as well as Kolkata. We have some major aspirations for distributing this fun food/travel series. Pics from the road:
THAILAND SHOOT: Thailand is a spectacular country to film in. I’ve been here about 5-6 times (don’t remember!) and it’s a nice convenient short hop from our post HQ in India. I took a mini vacation before meeting with the crew, sorting out shoot logistics, getting the lay of the land. I’ve pretty much ventured every part of Thailand (almost) and something I found this time around was that the hospitality/friendliness and demeanour of the locals have perhaps taken a slight turn for the worse. Thais are generally very friendly, but I feel that rampant tourism over the last decade has made locals a bit jaded towards tourists.. It had to happen. I still feel Indonesians are the friendliest bunch in the world. Anyhow, our shoot went fantastic, we filmed at some amazing markets that only locals venture to, ate at some great restaurants including Le Du, ventured amazing roof top bars, had a very diverse diet of bugs, mango sticky rice and plenty of soups/noodles/duck, pork etc. Really enjoy filming in Thailand and the crew and I had a very fun, sweaty, and adventurous time pin-balling around Bangkok.
INDIA SHOOT: Kolkata, India, in general is very chaotic to film in. I’ve sort of gotten my bearings now in Kolkata, which made it easy to navigate an episode. We really really lucked out with the monsoon showers. Our first day was almost disastrous as we had a food tour walk dedicated to the month of Ramadan and the heavy showers almost shut us down. But we grit our teeth and got through it. Food is amazing in Kolkata, so we had a great time consuming and filming the tasty delights. We even lucked out with our 2 major filming days with the traffic, thanks to the holiday of Ramadan. We had a 4 day turn around for this episode, and we powered through it.
We’ve had a very busy time filming these 2 episodes back to back in Asia this month, and now the crew is back in LA, already gearing up for our next locations, Mexico and Texas/Kansas/Oklahoma. It’s been a blast filming with Liesel and Dante and our work dynamic has been great. I can’t wait to be filming our next batch of eps with these 2 crazies. Only 7 more eps to go till we wrap the season!
ROAD LESS TRAVELED S4/Food Unknown
Writing this blog on the day of traveling – we resume our filming for both S4 and the Food Unknown seasons. We’re collaborating with the tourism board of Finland, which is where our episode is taking place. I’m quite stoked about this because we have complete creative latitude and access to pretty much whatever we want to film in the country… All with the blessing of the tourism board. It literally does NOT get better than this in production. Sure, we offer them great publicity with our show’s distribution, we infact, now air in Finland! We have some amazing locations lined up and I can’t wait to get to Helsinki. Not only are we filming in Finland, but our next destination is Ireland. And again, we’re collaborating with the tourism board as well! Needless to say, I am beyond excited to be collaborating with these organizations. Their help and passion about promoting their nations is commendable, and the fact that they are in tune with the RLT brand really speaks volumes. Got a fatty layover in Moscow where I’ll meet up with Jonathan and then we both fly into Helsinki together to begin our adventure. Can’t wait to share our adventures from the road!
I’m also looking forward to coming back to the States for a little bit of a breather, regrouping, and then heading back out filming new adventures. Stay tuned for more updates
