The short version (Watch this) | the best way to sum up our adventures from 2014 is this montage
The long version (read this!)
I’m not even going to make excuses for lack of posting anymore, it is just wayyyyyy too difficult to keep things updated here with the whole myriad of things I have going on at all times! In addition, between all the shoots and continent hopping between our facilities in India and California, I have no short term memory anymore. I rely on social media postings to track back my life events, it is that difficult!
Even though we’re already 5 months into the year, I’m still reeling in at how, truly amazing 2014 was for us. We went to some gorgeous destinations, had some of the most memorable, life-changing experiences, thanks to these journeys. The RLT crew is a small crew – usually the host, Jonathan Legg, and the cameraman/producer Dante Calvelli, occasionally joined by me, and supplemented by local/regional hires such as fixers/assistants, etc. where possible. The production crew had a massive responsibility to deliver a staggering amount of content (17 hours) in 1 year. Thats 2 people filming 10 months+ out of the year, gathering on average, 5-6 segments per episode, across 10 different countries! When you think about similar travel shows that are network funded (lavish budget, contingencies, MAN POWER), it really is an amazing feat. Not tooting my own horn here, but our crew is able to deliver something that is really not done by the network commissioned production world. Although we faced some delays, the crew was on a metronomic rhythm churning out so much content. Part of it is because everyone involved is truly enamored by travel, adventure, to see more of our world in a manner that is not possible as a tourist. Another part of it is the yearning to share our experiences with millions around the world. Literally, from camera to television, we film the series in such a manner that there is very little artificially crafted moments. We roll with the punches, and capture in a very on the go manner, something our audience really appreciates. At the end of the day, it is a bunch of really good friends, getting paid to travel, have adventures, indulge in their passion for film-making and showcase all this to the world! We plan on doing this for a long, long time!
Anyhow, this was our lineup: We started off with California/Nevada for Ep 1 of RLT, followed by Cambodia, India, Italy, UK, France, Romania, Moldova, Albania, Transnistria (not counting all the trips back to US for breaks).
I don’t always have the luxury of joining the RLT crew on all the shoots, but I did have a chance to join them for the California/Nevada shoot, Italy, part of the India shoot. By far, Italy was one of our most enjoyable shoots. What a place! I have the fondest traveling memories hailing from Italy!
It’s been a year of stuck 4x4s in desert dunes, secretly invading quarantined plague islands in Venice, fighting zombies, hanging with the Stig, partying at Tomorrowland with VIP access, chilling with Lamborghini test drivers, fighting poachers in the Cambodian wilderness, (the list goes on) but you get the picture! It’s going to be extremely difficult to top 2014 for us! But we’re making a decent effort, already with a voyage to Antarctica, a one of a kind road trip expedition through the Philippines under our belts, we’re off to a damn good start for 2015!
